In the Clearing

Christ Church Neighborhood House- 20 N American St. Philadelphia, PA 19106

A whisper in the woods. A light through the trees. We enter the forest to find spirits and shadows, trails and pathways, light and dark, the best and worst of ourselves. Once in, we find a clearing. Inspired by the literary traditions of fairy tales and coming-of-age stories, from Charles Perrault to Angela Carter, In the Clearing immerses the audience in an imaginative world transformed by scenic designer Kevin Jordan, costume designer Ixchel Mendez, lighting designer Michael Lambui, and sound designer Cory Neale. Featuring performances by Kate Abernethy, CrystalNicole, Vanessa Erin Gross, Kathy Kerner, Claire Lutz, Brianne Scott, and Molly Woytowicz who bring to life the magical forces at work deep in the woods. Choreography and Direction: Melissa Cameron.

HATCH

Performance Garage
1515 Brandywine Street
Philadelphia, PA 19130

Birds on a Wire incubated its 2nd HATCH- a presenting series focused on developing the skills and experience of emerging choreographers.  HATCH provides a glimpse into the latest trends in contemporary dance by presenting live performance from up-and-coming choreographers- Lora Allen, Belle Alvarez, Marie Brown, Mawiyah Dowd, Corey Melancon, Katie Moore, Nandini Sikand, and donia salem. With a diversity of style and background, each choreographer has developed bold material, breeding a wild mixed bill of short, refined works. Covering relevant topics such as immigration and social justice as well as featuring a rock-infused head-banging session and the kind of dance party you have in your room when no one is watching, HATCH has something for everyone. The evening features over thirty emerging dancers, choreographers, and designers.

Featuring new and upcoming faces in sometimes autobiographical and sometimes fantastically conjectured moments, HATCH explores the world of Millenial women -- our pathways and goals, our simultaneous fears of failure and of boredom, our desires to be innovative and free, and how we decide where we're going to sleep each night. Featuring the work of artists Dana Balsamo, Jenna Frome (WanderLustCollective), Rachael Glashan, Darcy Lyons (Quirk Works) + Becca Weber (Somanaut), Julie Marinucci, and a new work by Birds on a Wire Artistic Director Melissa Rodis.
